Hi guys,

my firstborn is due in August and I'd like to be able to set up a wireless (preferably) webcam in the nursery and monitor it on my (as yet unbuilt) HTPC downstairs. Is this possible? If so, do you guys recommend any cameras? Budget is fairly restricted to between £100 and £15 max (ish).

Cheers,

Jed.

There are some wireless webcams from Linksys you could look at, these allow you to network the camera to your router. Another option you could consider are those CCTV kits you can get on ebay. If you need to record it you can connect it to the video input on a TV card, some of these also have night vision as well. So maybe worth a look.

That looks pretty good. More info here:

http://www.y-cam.com/index.asp

"The camera's brightness settings are automatically adjusted when the room light is dimmed, so you are still able to view video in low light conditions. Furthermore the Y-cam will superimpose up to 4 images (frame integration) in 1 frame to increase the brightness of the image." - That feature sounds pretty good.

There is a black version too which has night vision. Theres a review here:

Is it possible to view the live feed through Vista Media Centre, or would I have to drop back to my normal desktop to view it?

You've got this nice picture of you and the missus sitting downstairs, watching TV and occasionally flicking over to the 'baby channel' haven't you?

As a Dad to three, I can assure you this won't happen, but good luck with the project! :D

I believe the review said you can view it by typing in the IP in internet Explorer? which you could launch from media center.
