Guys,

I have used most of the Origenae cases. I have the H5, H7, X10, X11 and X15. They are very high quality cases but I do not thing you will gain anything in using them instead of the Antec case. I use the X15 in my living room and because I have a dual display setup I am not using the case screen. Even I had a one dipslay setup and was using the case scrren, I find that it is mostly decorative and not of much use. The best use I found was using Yahoo widgets to display info such as time, weather etc. I will try and post pictures of the cases later.

Hi Charris,

Welcome to the forum

The more I use the H6 the more I come across its limitations. Any case with a central drive bay is going to be similiarly problemtc becuase it really messes up your layout.

Personally I think the internal fan layout is pretty pants and they should have gone for a side draft system like the Antec to allow for larger fans.

Having said that I have managed to get round the issues I had initially by using a 60mm fan on the floor of the case beneath the DVD drive. It is help in place with rubber grommets and works fine really increasing the airflow without effecting the noise. However the CPU fan and HDD fans are a bit noisy (HDD fan is stuck on ful speed) I cannot confirm that yet.

I wouldn't choose another case tough despite my difficulties, the H6 just looks great with my other AV gear and is worth the cost and fiddling IMO

Welcome Charis, and thanks for that post above. So if am not mistaken, you think it's better to go for the Antec then, as it gives you more room inside, and you are able to use bigger fans?

cheers

I think that is what I said, not charris :), although it all depends on your priorities. Value for money, ease of install (I'm guessing here) better airflow etc. are better on the Antec IMO but as I said I would still put aesthetics over the above, as it hasn't been too much effort to get things the way I want them and you only have to do it once right? :D

However I completely understand why you might prefer the Antec, it is the logical choice.

wow - these guys make some seriously highend stuff ... had only seen them at the higher end of the price brackets so had blinkered myself to avoid the covetting stage (I always covet what I can't have :( ) but some (not all) are pretty damn good looking ... shame I don't have the budget to match them, looking like Antec for me :D

X11 HTPC Case

Afternoon all,

This afternoon started to assemble my new HD-HTPC despite not having my power supply or hard drives.

A lovely case, but mine differs from the photographs on special techs website, in particualy no side grills for ventilation. Good o r bad not sure.

Connecting the X11 VDF and stuff was not with out minor glitches:

    1. Some soldering on the VDF made connecting some connectors difficult.

    2. The leads from the front mounted Firewire connection seem to have a couple of cables missing.

    3. The cables from the front headphones/microphone connection seem to have slightl different cables to what my asus mother board would expect.

As such I cannot check if they work yet, until Ihave my power supply, but the mother board is now secured and connected as is the graphics card.

Also was innitially confused with the lack of a speaker conection, a soft button reset button.

Do youneed an additioanl speaker for mother board boot up issues etc?

Any advice on these points most appreciated.

I will at soem point put together an article regarding the build when time, and resources allow

Here are some pictures however to wet your appetite

Speaker not necessary, unless you want to hear it beep (eg if there are POST issues) Soft reset is usually a button on the front of the case to allow the computer to be restarted (reset) if the OS hangs. Again this is not necessary, and some cases don't have this button anyway.

That looks a hefty heatsink on the graphics card :P

That is looking really good. However it looks like the bottom intake fan blows staright against the bottom of the drive caddy with no real ventilation to allow airflow over the drives?

I would suggest you move the intake fan (or add another) to the bottom of the case on the other side ( it looks like their are intake grills below the DVD/VFD area?). I did this on my case just using some of those rubber grommets to hold it in place and it works very well.

You can see the custom fit about halfway down this page

    Have fun :)

    Adam

    Thanks for the tip.

I will see what its like with the power supply first. I will only be using two drives initially so air flow around them should be suficnet.

When the basic system is up and working then I will add extra fans etc if needed.

    Hi Guys

I am really quite keen on the S10V or the S14V (addresses the depth issues I have (see my build thread for details) and I e-mailed SpecialTech on Thursday and have had no reply and tried calling but they don't seem to want to answer my call :(

Anyone have any idea what kind of price it is likely to retail at as I can't see the entire line-up being priced the same at £527 as per the SpecialTech site at the moment? And any idea on availability?

    Thanks

SpecialTech deliver fast but have no after sales service I am aware of, really, really bad. Avoid unless you are really sure you are buying what you want. There are loads of OrigenAE suppliers in Europe that are cheaper anyway, try some of the Danish or Dutch ones, they seemed the most responsive to me.

Sorry just noticed the models you are after, these won't be released for a while:

    Quote:
Availability of our products is depending on our distributors in UK. S21T lead time is 8weeks at this moment as this is just released and have a lot of backorders.

Prices are not decided by us but by Special tech as we only supply goods to our distributors.

Regarding S series, mass production will be started at the end of June.

    From origenAE sales team.

My guess is as always US & Asia will be served first then us some point later...

    Hi guys

After I added a slightly shirty comment on my trouble ticket with them I got this:
    SpecialTech wrote:
    Hi Sam

to be honest Origen are somewhat messing us around at the moment. We've had stock orders for the 'S' range for some months now and for some reason when stock is due we keep getting fobbed off with various excuses.

We are to say the least a little unhappy as we can offer none of our customers a reliable due date.

This is the current situation, as for an outcome, we have no idea.

I'm really sorry I can't be any more help but that is all we know at this time

    Kind Regards

    Specialtech

Doesn't look hopeful for a prompt release :( I did have a quick look on some of the other European Suppliers' sites but could see no reference to the newer cases and in fact many of them weren't even up with the *new* brand name.
