There is almost a function for every key within Media Portal, but these are the simple, essential Keyboard shortcuts to remember:

Graphedit
If you do run into any problems trying to play files, Download Graphedit from here. It allows you to visual see how your media file is being rendered, and with what filters.
Open GraphEdit, and click File ---> Render Media File, select the file you would like to view the graph for. The HD H.264 stuff should be using CoreAVC and Divx should be using ffdshow. You can also test different decoders too, but clicking the decoder (such as ffdshow) and pressing delete. Then click Graph ---> Insert Filters and expand Direct Show filters and choose the desired decoder. All you have to do then is to connect up the graph and press play. You can also modify the decoder settings by right clicking it and selecting filter propeties.
This piece of software can become complicated if you really delve into it. However, don't worry about it too much as you'll only need it for testing and troubleshooting.
TSSplitter
If you need to split or join .ts files, then there is an excellent little tool called TSSplitter. Its simple to use and pretty quick at it too.
To join them simply open the software, click File---->Open For Joining, click Add and add the .ts files you want to join. Click Join and your done!
